I.
Mission
The mission of the International
Immigrants Foundation and the International Cultures Mission is to help
immigrant families and children to achieve their aspirations for a
better life in the United States and to promote positive intercultural
relations. The organization addresses its mission by providing direct
support services to immigrant families and children, as well as
coordinating programs and organizing special events to promote
intercultural relations and change negative perceptions.
II. Goals
We are presently seeking funds to help
support the costs of our programs, which are of extreme importance to
its target population. In order to continue to
build capacity so as to achieve our social and cultural mission, we need
your support. We are appealing to you to help us maintain this support
and help to the immigrant community, at times so crucial. In these
especially hard times since September 11th, the Foundation
alone can no longer go on providing such an important service without
financial support.
III. Important Facts –
What we do
We are pleased to
introduce to you the
International Immigrants Foundation (IIF).
For almost thirty years, we have been guiding, leading, and empowering
immigrants. Not only do we provide various forms of technical
assistance, as we also provide immigrants a forum for cultural
expression and interaction through our various cultural events. We are
a trusted friend of the immigrant community, and we are proud to say
that we now have over 60,000 members.
The International Immigrants
Foundation is recognized as a
public non-profit charitable institution with IRS 501 c (3) status, with
special status with the United Nations as a non-governmental
organization with the Economic and Social Council and associated with
the U.N. Department of Public Information. Its representatives
display important activities on behalf of immigrants and refugees.
Through the multicultural
events we promote, such as International Cultures Expo-Fest and
the International Cultures Parade, with ample participation of
the immigrant community, we put together Christians, Muslims, Jews,
Hindus and peoples of all religious beliefs and backgrounds
participating and working together in the same events, contributing for
the reconciliation of harmony among ethnically divided groups.
We also believe, and it is indeed a most important part of our mission,
“in creating bridges of understanding among all people.”
For thirty years our work has concentrated on inclusion, on the
betterment of the life of those who immigrate and become an important
part of this country. As we help immigrants as a whole, we are helping
them as families, and as such, we are helping the betterment of life of
a part of the economically disadvantaged population.
We have been
self-sustained for 30 years. Since September 2000, we started a daily
educational show, The Immigrant’s Voice
addressing all current needs of
immigrants, their rights, where to go and what to do. This is the only
daily radio program directed to the immigrants’ community, providing
crucial information in a talk show format, allowing the audience to ask
questions and obtain guidance and help. After September 11th,
this program has proved to be even more helpful to the immigrant
community.

With the support we
provide immigrants, we help them to achieve a better life. We believe
in human rights and that all peoples have the right to be happy and
deserve respect and equal opportunities. We believe that inclusion and
fostering positive intercultural relations are important tools in order
to reach peace in a society where diversity prevails.
Adjusting to a new country, culture and
language is a difficult challenge. From legal technicalities to
discrimination, to loneliness and fear, immigrants confront frightening
realities that require immediate attention. We belong to an ethnically
divided society and our educational and informational work serves to
reinforce positive multicultural relations in order to overcome
conflicts, social and religious divisions.
Our programs have a
continuing outreach. We are now publishing an educational bilingual
newspaper; running Wednesday workshops on practical themes (How
to… open a bank account, get credit, mortgage, open a small business,
and so forth); teaching English as a Second Language
(beginning, intermediate and conversation); and running monthly
lectures on educational themes of importance to the immigrant
community (Equal Access to Human Services for Immigrants, Children
and Minors of Undocumented Immigrants, Victims of Alien Smuggling and
Extortion, History of Immigration in the US and its Democratic Impact,
The Importance of Positive Multicultural Relations for Peace, etc).
