Bolivia is a landlocked country straddling the central Andes Mountains in west central South America. It is bounded on the north and east by Brazil, on the southeast by Paraguay, on the south by Argentina, and on the west by Chile and Peru. SUCRE is the judicial capital; LA PAZ is the administrative capital. Bolivia became a republic in 1825, when it gained independence from Spain. It is named for Simon BOLIVAR, the liberator of South America.
