The International Immigrants Foundation signs “Agreement of Cooperation” with the Dominican Republic Consulate in New York

New York, August 24, 2007. The Foundation the International Immigrants Foundation signed an “Agreement of Cooperation” with the Consulate of the Dominican Republic, last Tuesday 21 of August in the branch of the consulate in New York.
 
“We are making this strategic alliance to support the increased flood of the working Dominican population in the city”, said Edward Juárez, Founder and President of the International Immigrants Foundation.

At the same time, the Consul of Dominican Republic, architect Eduardo Selman said that the consulate of its country aim to provide services that will benefit his compatriots in subjects of immigration. “This is a hope
and faith agreement for the regularization of thousand of Dominicans and immigrants”, he said.
 
As witnesses in this agreement were presents the Commissioner of Immigration of the city of New York, Dr. Guillermo Linares; the General Consul of Peru in New York, Ambassador Heli Peláez Castro, and Carlos Lugo, lawyer of immigration of the International Immigrants Foundation.
 
“I applaud these agreements of cooperation that help to solve the situation of thousands of immigrants. The consulate of Peru already signed an agreement of cooperation with the Foundation and I hope that these agreements are increased for the well-being of all and this nation”, said Peláez that also thanked for the expressions of solidarity and support of the diverse communities after the earthquake that affected his country.
 
Linares, also emphasized that this agreement will benefit not only the more numerous Hispanic community in New York, but the immigrants in general, since will be associated to a non profit organization that were established 35 years ago”.
 
The agreement is aimed to establish a follow up of the cases, direct consultant's office between institutions, legal service as well as other services such, establishment of credit, loans, classes of English and citizenship and the purchase of house, among other services.
 
According to the last data of the census, it calculates that more than 1 million of Dominicans reside in New York.
 
The objective of our organization, as a non profit, is to serve as platform so that the communities’ immigrants fulfill the objectives that brought them to the United States. “We make an invitation to the Dominican community that they visit the Immigrants Building and consult our specialized staff that works in favor of the immigrants”, Juárez said.
