The International Immigrants Foundation located at 7 West 44th
Street , inaugurated its multicultural center with the
assistance of Dr. Guillermo Linares,
Commissioner of the Office of Immigrant Affairs of the Mayor’s
Office in
NYC the Board of Directors, and members of the National
Association of Hispanic Journalists in the
United States.
The
International Immigrant Foundations’ Multicultural Center open
a unique space of more than 2000 square foot dedicated to the
intercultural development and the business sectors that make
up the community’s diversity in the tri-state area.
The
commissioner, Dr. Guillermo Linares
and the members of the National Association of Hispanic
Journalists (NAHJ) cut a symbolic ribbon, officially
inaugurating the International Center . Among NAHJ present
were Rafael Olmeda, President,
Ivan Roman, Executive Director and Johanna Hernandez, Region
Coordinator and the president of the International Immigrants
Foundation, Mr. Edward Juarez .
Edward Juarez
, president of the International Immigrants Foundation said,
“We are very proud of this place since it was a contribution
by immigrant workers for all the immigrant communities, in the
heart of
Manhattan . The work that the immigrants do in the
social and business areas in this country is each day more
outstanding,” said Mr. Juarez.
Commissioner
Linares emphasized the job of the
immigrant community in the economy development, not only in
New York but also in the American Union. “This Immigrant
Building and its multicultural center are a clear example of
the hard work of the
New York City community that is mostly composed by
immigrants.”
Ivan Roman,
Executive Director of the NAHJ, conveyed his gratification for
participating in the inauguration event. He presented a
document of the media with a fair coverage of immigration
topics “Even though we cannot take position of the scene, we
could help prevent discrimination against immigrants,” he
said.
The
Multicultural Center will officially open its doors for
workshops, conferences, exhibitions, business meetings, and
cultural activities.
