While the majority of the families are preparing to share the holidays together, Maria, a Salvadorian immigrant, has a very serious problem…. She does not know what happened to her brother who supposedly was going to cross the border and join her to celebrate the holidays in the United States.
In preparation for this holiday season, the American and Mexican Immigration Authorities have strengthened their aggressive efforts to restrain the illegal immigration, thus preventing the increase of over 200 immigrants whom have died in 2007 for tying to cross the border as victims of Coyotes, or for clashing with the unstable and uncertain conditions of the dessert.
The immigrants that pretend to enter illegally, must know that legal ways exists to do so, and must be knowledgeable of the current laws. For example, one of those stipulated laws says that if an immigrant re-enters illegally to the country after a deportation, he or she becomes inadmissible to obtain residency. Similarly, another decision in November 29th by the Board of Immigration Appeals, affirmed that, the immigrants that leave the country after overstaying illegally more than 6 months or 1 year, cannot do an Adjustment of Status for Permanent Residency, even if they have left the country with an Advance Parole, a legal permission given by the Immigration to re-enter the country.
In case that you are not aware of the whereabouts of the immigrant or the way to enter the United States, you can come to the International Immigrants Foundation to obtain immediate assistance, confidentiality and services free of charge.
The name of the missing person will be processed in our database, together with rescued people or those who have lost their lives trying to cross the border. The professionals of the Foundation will assist in contacting the government agencies, rescue organizations in the entire area of the country, and hospitals.
